Stephen Rich Dayton, a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024. Born in Middletown, NY on June 27, 1938 to Carl and Eleanor Dayton. He is predeceased by his newborn son, Stuart. Steve, as he was affectionately known, lived a life filled with love, joy, and compassion.
Steve was a kind-hearted man with an adventurous spirit. He had a deep passion for the outdoors and found immense pleasure in hunting and fishing. Whether it was the thrill of the chase or spending quiet moments by the water's edge, he found solace and happiness in nature. Steve also had a true musical soul, finding delight in playing the organ. In his younger years, he shared his talent for music by playing the bass guitar in a jazz band, bringing joy to those who heard his melodic rhythms.
But perhaps what defined Steve most was his unwavering faith and his devotion to God. He practiced his Christian faith as an active member of the Westport Bible Church. Steve demonstrated his faith through acts of kindness, sharing his beliefs, and connecting with others on a deep and personal level. His ability to strike up a conversation with anyone was remarkable, and he left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Steve's legacy lives on through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy, with whom he shared 63 years of love and cherished memories. He leaves behind his beloved children, Deborah (John) Anderson, Carolyn (Minas) Souris, Laura Dayton, who will always carry his spirit in their hearts. Steve's love and dedication extended to his grandchildren, Anson (Stefany), Antonios (Mariolina), Elissa (Michael), Dorie (Kenney), Julie, and Sam, touching their lives and leaving indelible imprints on their souls. He was blessed with eight great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and laughter. Steve is also survived by his brother, Daniel Dayton.
Steve, with his generous heart, infectious sense of humor, and genuine love for others, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Although our hearts ache with the pain of his loss, we find solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through the memories we hold dear. Rest in peace, beloved Steve, as you embark on the next chapter of your journey guided by God's eternal love.
