Obituary

Scott "Smokey" Dominy, 62, of East Beekmantown, passed away on Saturday, October 3rd, 2026.

Raised on the Dominy farm, he helped pick beans in the garden & chase cows when they got through the fence. It was his work in the garage, along with his father, where he learned skills that guided him down many roads in his life. It began with small engines and evolved into a career spent on motors that increased in size over time.

His career began in high school working at North End Repair, on Boynton Ave. He moved with them to Rt. 3 and became a highly sought-after motorcycle, ATV, and snowmobile mechanic for decades. Everyone on two wheels had heard of "Smokey".

His second career began when he joined the Carpenters union and became a Millwright. He and his teams traveled across the Northeast states for over 15 years. Their task was to break down and then rebuild Gas/Steam turbines & Power generators. He loved his Union brothers and always said it was "the best part-time job he ever had!"

Scott is survived by the joys of his life, his son Kyle, and three beautiful granddaughters, Bayleigh, Kazlynn, and Frankie. His girls loved spending time with their Papa. Whether it was ice cream, popcorn, or trips to the arcade, he loved those girls with all his heart. He always made sure they had their first gas-powered ride waiting for them even before their 5th birthday.

Others left behind are his wife, Johanna; sisters Carol Burleigh & Marilyn Dominy; and their children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father, Raymond; mother, Eleanor; brother-in-law, David Burleigh; and his favorite uncle, Rodney Chevalier.

As per his wishes, there will be no calling hours.

A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Please make donations in his memory to North Country Honor Flight, PO Box 2644, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901, was entrusted with the arrangements.
