Robert Betterton, II

April 16, 1956 — November 20, 2023

In Memoriam: Robert John Betterton II (April 16, 1956 - November 20, 2023)

Robert "Bob" Betterton II, 67, passed away peacefully in the early hours of November 20, 2023. A man of deep complexity, he leaves behind a legacy woven with both light and shadows.

Bob is survived by his three adult daughters: Chelsea Betterton (Drew Mitchell), Natalie (Kevin) Coffey, and Shelby (Joseph) Manzella, and four grandchildren.

He graduated from McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, NY and Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY where he presided as the Wizard of Dolphy Day, the student-led spontaneous celebration of spring.

Despite Bob's mental and physical illnesses, his daughters remember and cherish the moments of joy and connection that transcended the difficulties.

Bob found solace and passion in a wide variety of music. His love for melody and rhythm reflected the depth of his soul, mirroring the intricate interplay of his own life's highs and lows.

A deep philosophical thinker, he often pondered the mysteries of existence, and enjoyed debating either side of an argument with others. Though he could get lost in his musings, the trail he left behind showcased his intellectual curiosity.

In the last few years, Bob delighted in caring for his two beloved dogs, Buddy and Skyler, and received so much comfort and support from his friend Kathy Hall, who he called "the wind beneath his wings."

As we reflect on Bob's life, let us remember the man who danced between shadows and light, embodying the profound dichotomy of the human experience. In his departure, may we find solace in the cherished memories that celebrate both the joys and challenges of life.

Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, NY.
