It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Addison Hathaway, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend. Ralph, age 89, peacefully departed from this world on May 19, 2025, in his beloved hometown of Elizabethtown, NY, where he was born on June 6, 1935, to Gordon Hathaway and Lillian Guyette Hathaway.
Ralph was a man who filled the lives of those around him with joy, laughter, and kindness. He was a fun-loving family man, known for his ability to light up a room and share a hearty laugh with anyone who crossed his path. Married to his beloved wife Lorraine for an inspiring 57 years, they created a home in Elizabethtown and a camp on Willsboro Bay, filled with love, warmth, and unforgettable memories.
A dedicated worker, Ralph began his career in the communications industry with New York Telephone Company, and continued to serve the community until his retirement from Verizon after the company's acquisition. Beyond his full-time job, Ralph showcased his remarkable work ethic by owning a carpet business, plowing driveways during the winter, and even pumping septic tanks in the summer. His spirit of service extended to the U.S. Army, where he ran the Army Reserve Center in Elizabethtown for three decades.
Ralph was also a longtime member of the Elizabethtown Fire Department, where he later served as Fire Commissioner, embodying his commitment to bettering his community. He was a humble man who wanted nothing for himself but always sought to lend a helping hand to those in need, leaving behind a legacy of generosity and compassion.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lorraine, as well as his parents.
