It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Reed on July 17, 2025, at the University of Vt. Medical Center ICU. Peter was a lifetime native of Keene, NY, born on March 2, 1944, to the parents of Howard and Erma Reed. He lived his entire life on East Hill (now known as Hurricane Road). He was a skilled craftsman, a guide and devoted caretaker to many residents and led a simple but fulfilling life with his love for the outdoors, animals, fishing and hunting. He was always looking for that illusive buck. He will be remembered for his wit, humor and storytelling. He was called "Pete Repeat" as he had the tendency to recite the same story over and over.
He is predeceased by his father Howard, mother Erma, brothers Douglas and James and sister, Jane. Left to cherish his memories are his sisters, Joan Cahalin (John) from Doylestown, PA and Donna Reed Austin, Keene, NY, nieces and nephews Jody Cahalin Lawrence (Brian), Tara Cahalin Gallant (Barry), Erin Reed Kaelin (Adam), Kristin Reed McGaughey (Jim), John Cahalin (Helen Jo), Kevin Cahalin, Tim Cahalin (Vivian) and Jim Cahalin (Vanessa) and 18 grand nieces and nephews, many caring cousins and lifelong friends. He also leaves behind his "second family" at the ADK Cafe in Upper Jay whom he loved chatting with over coffee and meals. He was a daily patron there.
The family wishes to extend deepest thanks for the excellent and compassionate care by the staff at the Elizabethtown ER as well as the University of Vt. Medical Center ICU. He could not have been in better hands.
Peter would not want flowers or a donation given to any particular cause in his name; instead, he would ask that anyone reading this obituary would reach out to a neighbor, friend or someone in need and show an act of kindness to make someone's day better and make memories together. He always did!
There will be a graveside service on Friday, July 25th, 2025, at the Norton Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
