Mary Shackett

Mary Etta Shackett, 82, passed away on June 6, 2025 in Elizabethtown, NY. Born on May 27, 1943, in Keene Valley, NY, to Clark Defendorf and Virginia Macey. She lived a life of warmth, compassion, and dedication, embodying the spirit of her community.

Mary devoted over 25 years to the Adirondack Medical Center/Mountain Health Center working in medical records/reception. Her meticulous attention to detail and her caring approach impacted the lives of many patients and staff alike. Beyond her professional life, Mary was a devoted wife to her loving husband, Raymond Shackett, and an adoring mother to her two sons, Jeffery (Amy) Shackett and Raymond (Kim) Shackett, Jr.; she was also a proud grandmother to Caroline (Danielle), Stephanie, Raymond, and Ryan, all of whom survive her. Mary is also survived by her siblings Richard "Joe" (Marie), and Nelson (Cindy), sister-in-law Doris (Pank), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was cherished for her ability to bring the family together, especially during the annual Thanksgiving board game night, a tradition that evoked laughter and shared memories. Her baked goods (particularly her sour cream coffee cake, blonde brownies, and buckeyes) and deviled eggs, were long awaited and celebrated by family and friends, as they became a symbol of her love and nurturing spirit.

Mary loved attending her grandchildren's special events and sports games, and family trips to Disney. In her younger years, Mary enjoyed activities like dancing, cross-country skiing and competitive speed skating.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Pank.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Brendan's Church in Keene on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Norton Cemetery.

Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, NY.
