Marshall Benedict

January 27, 1950 — August 8, 2023

On August 8, 2023, Marshall C. Benedict passed away peacefully with his companion by his side at home after a year long battle with cancer.

Marshall was born on January 27, 1950, to Robert Leroy Benedict and Rita Garvey Benedict in Plattsburgh, NY.

Marshall graduated from Willsboro Central School in 1969 and attended Lassen College in California and received an Associates degree in Technical Forestry in 1971.  From college Marshall entered the workforce with employment in the state of Oregon with several different employers for twenty plus years.  One job that Marshall did was being part of a crew in the operations of helicopter logging.  Upon returning home to Willsboro, he worked for John W. Sheehan and Sons Inc., Peter Paine, and weekends with Ed Hatch.  In his spare time, he also worked for his brother Ricky and on his own with different varieties of jobs that included ones for people in his community.  Friends and family would agree that he was always busy doing something.

Marshall truly enjoyed the sport of hunting and fishing with his close friends.  With his favorite beverage in hand, Genessee, he enjoyed laughter and making others laugh while telling stories and jokes in his shop.  The talent of being a skilled craftsman was shown in the way of building two homes, constructing his own cabinets in his kitchen, and adorning his own home with different woods and textures.  The talent that was held in his hands was shown in the work he did with them.  Enjoying the visits of young children, letting them sit upon his lap, answering their questions, and letting them run outside of his shop was an enjoyment also.  Listening to the good ole oldies music was another favorite pastime of his.

Marshall is survived by his companion of five and a half years Janet Shepard, his daughter Jenny (Benedict) Shaffer of Willsboro, his son Marshall Benedict Jr. of California, his beloved grandchildren are Karissa Babb of Oregon, William Shaffer of Oregon, and Emily Shaffer of Plattsburgh, two great-grandchildren, Syndney and Freya Babb; his sister-in-law Christine Tybush Benedict of Willsboro, niece Tracey Benedict, cousins and close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Keith and Rickey, grandson Justin Baker, and many family members.

Please join the family on September 9, two o’clock, at his home, to lay Marshall to rest and continue afterwards to share stories and celebrate his life.
