Madeline Jeannette Rathbun, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on December 10, 2025. She was born on January 1, 1958, in Plattsburgh, New York to Robert and Marjorie Bowen. Madeline's life was a testament to love, kindness, importance to family, and God.

Madeline grew up in Whallonsburg, New York and from a young age she was known for her gentle spirit and her devotion to those she loved.

Madeline married Edward Rathbun and together they built a home with laughter, compassion, and the wonderful aromas of Madeline's baking. She found immense joy in making pies, brownies, cookies, and cakes; especially when baking with her grandchildren. Family time was her greatest treasure, and she created a loving home wherever she went.

Madeline is survived by her cherished children: Judy Rathbun, Jeannette Rathbun (Kevin LaPointe), Edward Rathbun (Bobbi Covel), Eugene Rathbun, Gary Rathbun, and Allen Rathbun. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren: Rachel, Edward, Melissa, Eric, Christopher, Ashley, Destiny, David, Marjorie, and Allie; as well as her great-grandchildren who will forever carry the memories of baking and togetherness in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her infant son James, her brother Kenneth Ahrent, and her parents.

Madeline's legacy is one of unconditional love, selfless devotion, and the warmth of a home where everyone felt welcome. Her gentle spirit, love for family, and passion for baking touched all who knew her, even the other workers and customers at McLean's Family Restaurant in Keeseville, where she was a cook for 13 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
