Linda Carlsen

October 24, 1946 — March 9, 2024

Plattsburgh

Linda A. Carlsen, née Awerdick, acquiesced to pancreatic cancer on March 9, 2024.  She was the daughter of Lawrence and Laura Awerdick of Tarrytown, N.Y. and one of four children of their union. Linda is survived by a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Mary Jane.

Although living her life in Tarrytown, specifically Pocantico Hills, after high school graduation she attended college only to return home for summers and visitations. During her time in college, she met Tom Carlsen who would, four years hence, become her bonified partner for life.

After several years of marriage, she birthed two sons, Joshua in 1973 and Robert in 1975, and after a short hiatus from teaching, she returned to the classroom as a sixth-grade English teacher. She spent most of her teaching years at the Plattsburgh Middle School, where she rejoiced in student successes and dismayed for those who fell through the "cracks".

In retirement, her affection for art and literature found her being an unofficial editor for friends' literary works and devoting her time as a docent at Plattsburgh State Art Museum.

As a woman often referred to by her husband as a pollyanna, she exuded positiveness and a welcoming demeanor to all she met. She was one great human being.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services.

Arrangements were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Linda's name to the following:

Hospice of the North Country, 358 Tom Miller Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901; or Plattsburgh State Art Museum, 235 Myers Fine Arts, 101 Broad St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901
