Lewis Motasky

Elizabethtown, NY: On Sunday, November 2025, Lewis J. Motasky, 78, passed away peacefully in his home with his daughters by his side. Lou was surrounded by family and friends most of the day and when it was done, he left us to live forever with Our Father in His home.

Lou was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He attended Saint Ambrose School, Bullard Havens Technical for electronics and communications and then college courses in Forestry. When he was 18, he met the love of his life, Sharon, on a blind date set up by friends. Three months later, he proposed to her at Frankie's on Barnum Avenue and they were married 47 years. Lou took care of Sharon when her health began to fail and she passed away September 30, 2013. Lou and Sharon had "four jewels" with daughters Lisa (Robert Reed), Pam (John Harrington), Maria (Billie Bledsaw), and Sarah Motasky.

Lou was Pa and Pop Pop to Brianna (Sam Lowen), Sherri (Josh Bouchard), Nicole (Chad Houle), Alayna, Isaiah, Aaron, Joanna, Chaylyn, Justin, and Autumn. He was great grandfather to Milo, Jack, Chad Jr., and Zackary. Lou was a doting pet dad to many dogs and kitties over the years and leaves behind his faithful companion Layla who was at his side until the very end.

Lou was a veteran having served in the United States Navy. A machinist by trade, Lou set up the machinery at Burndy's for many years. Later, he was a foreman for Park and Recreation Department in Bridgeport. He moved to Cambridge, NY in 1980 and worked hard to support his family at Eastern Castings among others. Lou was the type of person who would give you the shirt off of his back. He believed in giving and sharing and spent countless hours volunteering at the "soup kitchen" in Great Mills, Maryland.

Lou was a jack of all trades joking that duct tape could fix almost anything. He had an ear for music on the piano and played polkas on his accordion. He was a successful gardener and took pride in his vegetables and canning and baking. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting trips and spending time in the woods with his father (Lewis M. Motasky) and brother (Richard Motasky) before they passed away. He continued to hunt with his son-in-laws and special friends. Lou loved to fish and even crafted his own canoe for fishing adventures in Maryland and Summit Lake, Argyle.

Lou was extremely talented and spent long winters and countless hours on his dioramas including model tanks, planes and handcrafted nativities, cabins, windmills, train stations and farms. Very talented in the kitchen, Lou loved to cook for friends and family. He could always be counted on to get a camp fire going and enjoy time remeniscing with his family, special family-friends at Summit Lake (Hugh and Linda, Kathy Martin and so many others) as well as his amazing Boquet Development family in Elizabethtown.

Lou was a man of faith, a Christian, a man with morals and values who raised his family to do the same. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He spoke often of his beloved mother, Katherine (Kuchinski) Motasky and wife Sharon who he missed dearly. He is with them again.

All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Lou's Life on Thursday, November 6th, at Westport Bible Church in Westport, NY at 5pm. Light refreshments are being provided by Westport Bible Church after the celebration. All are welcome to attend a graveside service on Friday, November 7th at 11am at Woodlands Cemetery, N. Union Street, Cambridge, NY. After the service, please join us for fellowship at the Elk's Lodge 2223, 130 Bulson Road, Greenwich, NY. Light lunch items will be available.
