Kathleen Hutchins

June 7, 1949 — September 20, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a beautiful, smiling soul. Our mother, mimi, love, wife, daughter, sister and friend.

Kathleen Marie (Parks) Hutchins, age 76 passed away peacefully on September 20th, 2025 with some of her loving family by her side. She travelled a long journey in recent years with Alzheimer's Disease. Throughout the journey she remained strong, kind, and loving.

The oldest of eight siblings, Kathy was born on June 7th, 1949. She was the self named "Director" of her siblings, enjoying a childhood full of shenanigans in Walden and Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. Kathy attended Saint Johnsbury Academy, graduating in the class of 1967.

In March 1968 Kathy married Steve Hutchins. Kathy was a dedicated, loving, hardworking mother and wife. She spent many years as a stay at home mother caring for her children.

In the late 90s, Kathy began a 20 + year retail career at Expressions on Church Street in Burlington. Kathy loved meeting new people. Her people skills also made her a fantastic saleswoman. She seemed to make friends no matter where she went, always greeting others with her beautiful smile. This was so evident when she worked at Expressions. Many of the customers became her friend throughout her time there.

In 2000, Kathy found her love, Robert Root. They have been inseparable since and enjoyed many wonderful years together in South Burlington.

Kathy will be remembered as a loyal, loving and understanding woman. She was a natural provider. She was always willing to help others, listening and advocating for many people in her life.

Everyone who knows Kathy seems to remember her as smiling. She had a fantastic sense of humor-she always had something witty and funny to say. She loved to laugh, giggle and tell stories.

Kathy appreciated the beauty in everything around her. She had the most beautiful handwriting and an appreciation for quotes and poetry. She was always the most stylish woman in the room. She loved shopping for antiques. She was also quite a talented photographer.

She enjoyed being outside, especially going for walks on the local wooded trails and bike path with friends.

Kathy's ultimate joy was spending time with her friends and family, especially at family events like our Thanksgiving get-togethers. She simply adored her three grandsons. She eagerly cared for them when they were young and proudly listened to the stories of their accomplishments as they grew.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Florence and Neil Parks, her sister Susan Baker, brother Stephen Parks and former husband Stephen Hutchins.

She is survived by her partner and love Robert Root, her children Emily LaMothe and son-in-law Todd LaMothe, son Boyd Hutchins and daughter Deborah Snider. Sisters Zoe Ann Parks, Janice Gilbert and Carolyn Claxton. Brothers James and Daniel Parks. Her three grandsons Evan, Cedric and William LaMothe. Along with an aunt, many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kathy's friendships were numerous, there are so many life long friends.

We will miss her smile, sweet laughter and her beautiful energy that filled the rooms she entered. The world simply isn't the same without her in it.

We carry her legacy forward of seeing the beauty, joy and humor in life.

A celebration of life will be planned for Kathy in the near future. Please join us in honoring this beautiful woman and her life.
