John Romano

John C. Romano, age 77, of Plattsburgh, NY passed away on May 19, 2025. John was born in Potsdam, NY on May 27, 1947, the son of Clayton "Ted" and Claire (Besaw) Romano, who both predeceased him.

John graduated from Canton High School, Canton ATC, and Potsdam University where he was a member of the Prometheus Fraternity.

He worked at various jobs while in high school and college. He began work at the U.S. Customs Service in March 1971 and retired in December 2004.

He met his wife while working at U.S. Customs in 1977. They married in 1990 at their home in West Chazy under the old maple tree surrounded by family and close friends.

He was a very active outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and trapping. He especially loved fly fishing and tied his own salmon flies. Some of these flies he showcased in shadow boxes and gave as gifts.

He loved to play and watch different sports and was also an avid reader. He was quick to make friends and always loved a good time.

John is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Wetherby) Romano; a son, Robert Romano and his wife, Christy and their four children Isabelle, Claire, Gabriel, and Frank; a daughter Lisa Veneziano and her husband, Domenic and their daughter, Sydney; and a stepson, Eric Bombardier and his wife Lisa, and their two daughters, Natalina and Reyauna. John is also survived by his sister Joanne Hudson and her husband Larry and their children, Courtney and Ted.

Per John's request, there will be no services. In his memory and in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
