Janet Smith

Janet K. Smith passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, in Ticonderoga, NY.

She was born on March 27, 1934, in Witherbee, NY.

Janet dedicated much of her life to her work in the banking industry, serving as the Head Teller at Champlain National Bank in Westport. Janet's professionalism and strong work ethic left an indelible mark on the community she served.

Beyond her career, Janet had a passion for various hobbies. She adored her feline companions and found solace in their company. An avid fisherwoman, she cherished moments spent casting lines into the tranquil waters of Lake Champlain, finding peace and fulfillment in the rhythm of the waves. Janet also had a vivacious spirit for dance, (she met Roger, the love of her life, at a dance!) particularly enjoying the lively atmosphere of square dancing with friends.

Janet leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Smith, Deborah (James) Smith-McMahon, and Nancy (William) Hunter as well as two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Janet's sister-in-law, Doris Bodie, and several nieces and nephews also mourn her loss.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, parents and siblings.

To honor Janet's life, a Memorial Service will be held on October 4, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Heidrick Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, in Elizabethtown. Following the service, a Graveside Service will take place at 12:30 pm at the Black River Cemetery.
