James Reid, 76, passed away on February 28, 2024 in Plattsburgh. He was born on June 5, 1947, in Queens Village, NY to Wallace and Gertrude Reid.
Throughout his life, James was a shining pillar of strength and determination. As a high school athlete, he excelled in basketball and football, showcasing his exceptional talents on the court and field. After attending Montclair State University, James served his country as a US Army veteran stationed in Germany, a testament to his patriotism and dedication.
A true salesman at heart, James dedicated many years of his life to working with Sherwin Williams and Glidden in New Jersey and VT. His passion for painting shone through in his career, where he left a lasting impact on all those he encountered. An avid sports fan, James cherished moments supporting his favorite teams, the NY Jets, and the UVM Catamounts. He found solace in reading the New York Post and cherished discussing sports with friends over cigars.
James embraced life with vigor, never missing a chance to experience new adventures. His trip to Las Vegas during March Madness was filled with unforgettable memories and joy. A fitness enthusiast, he maintained a routine workout schedule, always striving to better himself physically and mentally.
Above all, James had a heart of gold and a profound love for his feline companions. His two cats, always brothers by his side, were cherished like his own children. His compassion extended beyond his pets, as James dedicated himself to helping those struggling with addiction, embodying empathy and kindness in all his endeavors.
James was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Gertrude Reid; brother John Reid and his wife Laurie, brother Thomas Reid, and sister Margaret "Peggy" Krack.
He is survived by his nieces Bevin Ginty, Erin Krack, and Paula Marks; and nephew John Reid. Additionally, James leaves behind his sister-in-law Eileen Reid; three great-nieces and three great-nephews, all of whom he adored dearly.
An informal gathering will be held at a later date for those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who touched so many hearts. May he rest in eternal peace, his memory forever etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY.
