Heather Marie Wood Van Valkenburg died Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Plattsburgh, New York.

She was born June 23, 1959, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of John and Palmyra (Penny Ransom) Wood. She graduated from Beekmantown Central School in 1977 and worked at Meadowbrook Healthcare and Econo Lodge.

Heather is survived by her son, Jeffery Van Valkenburg of Plattsburgh, and her siblings, Frances Beauharnois of Mountain View, CA, Linda Scuncio of Crystal Springs, FL, and Tracey Rivard of Adams, MA. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her maternal aunt, Ida Ransom of CT.

The family thanks all the staff at the Plattsburgh Rehabilitation and Nursing Center who cared for Heather these past years; we know it was not easy.
