Harry McCray

December 1, 1938 — October 30, 2023

Harry P. McCray passed away peacefully at his home in Lewis at the age of 84, surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Harry joined the Army in 1957, serving in the reserves until his discharge in 1963. He met the love of his life Patricia in 1957 at a dance at the grange hall in Lewis. Together they raised five children. Harry was a long distance truck driver for many years and would take his children along with him on trips to Florida and Georgia when they were young. When Harry decided to come in off the road he went to work at a local sawmill, Cornwright Lumber. There he taught himself how to operate the saws and soon became the mills Sawyer which he did for many years.

Harry retired in 2010 and spent his time with the greatest joys in his life - his Grand children and eventually his Great Grandchildren. Being a Papa brought him great joy and he would travel anywhere his "kids" were to see them if they called!

Harry could always be found surrounded by children, sharing a laugh with friends at Stewart's over a cup of coffee or driving the backroads with his wife on one of their adventures. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his parents Doris and Harry McCray Sr., his sister Mary Ann Phinney, daughter Tereasa Mc Cray, son Michael McCray, granddaughter Gabby Lincoln and great grandson Charlie.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Patricia McCray of Lewis, NY, his 3 daughters Wendy Ewald of Lewis, NY, Anna (Will) Lincoln of Jay, NY and Christine Clark of New Albany, Indiana, 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and a special daughter-in-law Lanita Canavan.
