Harold James Boyle, 68, passed away at his home in Plattsburgh on August 30, 2024. He was born in Plattsburgh on Nov 28, 1955, to Edward and Aline Boyle (nee Delisle).
Harold graduated from Beekmantown Central School before attending SUNY Plattsburgh, majoring in History. His nickname among friends on campus was "Jumpin' Jack Flash", in part for his love of the Rolling Stones, a band he saw in concert several times. Academically, he was deeply interested in local history, devouring books on the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the Civil War and events that shaped the Champlain Valley.
In his twenties and later he became an excellent local tennis amateur, playing with friends and in some local tournaments. In photos, he could easily be mistaken for his hero Bjorn Borg: tall, athletic, with a slight build and long wavy hair held in place by a headband. Harold could have passed as Borg's brother.
Harold's other passion was the camera. He was a gifted amateur photographer, who sold and occasionally exhibited his work. He often combined history and photography. He traveled extensively throughout Vermont with his good friend Bobby Garrow, who passed in 2015. Together they documented the covered bridges, turn-of-the-century architecture, historic sites and the many natural wonders of the area. They were often joined by Harold's wife Pamela Lee-Boyle, who shared his passion for photography and travel. Pam and Harold continued to travel and take pictures until a few years ago, when their health precluded it..
Harold retired with the rank of Lieutenant from Clinton Correctional Facility after a 25 year career.
He lost his wife Pamela this past May, also far too young. Harold is survived by his older brother Michael and Michael's two children, Aidan and Connor Rose.
At Harold's request their will be no services. In lieu of flowers or donations, please spend a little extra time with your loved ones.
Services were entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
