Gladys A. (Winch) Whitney

Gladys A. (Winch) Whitney 81 of Keene Valley, N.Y. passed away Tuesday March 12 at CVPH surrounded by her family. Gladys was born in Lake Placid on September 18, 1937 the daughter of Forest and Alvira (Phillips) Winch. Gladys married Doug Whitney in 1957. Doug predeceased her September 6, 2013.
She was proceeded by her parents as well as threebrothers Donald, Robert and Ira Winch and a sister Mary (Clifford) Taylor, brother and sister in-laws Shirleen, Bonita and Doris Winch, Yvonne Whitney, Bev, Jeannine and Gordon(Anita) DeVost and nephews Ike and Bobbie Winch.
She is survived by her five children Wesley Whitney(Robin), Carla Whitney, Kerry Whitney, Rebecca(John) Odell and Barbara (Don) Ratliff. Her eight grandchildren; Whitney (Jimmy) Beaney, KatherynOdell (Matt), Darcy Canabush, Derrick Ratliff, Patrick Odell (Kayla), Trevor Ratliff, Joseph Ratliff and Ryan Odell and her one and only great-granddaughter Alexa. She is also survived by two brothers Forest Winch(Doris) and James Winch and a sister-in-law Flora Winch and brother-in-law Timothy DeVost as well as many nieces and nephews. Gladys was passionate about her flowers in the summer, making apple pies and giving them, to whoever would take one. She enjoyed decorating the house for Halloween seeing all the kids for many generations. She also loved her animals Abby and Great Big. She enjoyed the deer, birds, squirrels and chipmunks and most other wild animals. She liked collecting anything depicting an owl or cardinal The family would like to thank the Dialysis Unit, ECH Emergency Department, CVPH ICU and Keene Valley Fire and Rescue Squads for all of their wonderful care and kindness. You all went above and beyond for Gladys and she loved you all for that. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Gladys’ memory to the Keene Valley Rescue Squad. There will be a grave side service in the spring.
