Edith O'Connell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith Ann O'Connell, who departed this life peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on June 15, 1927 to Joseph Trombly and Eva Frederick, in the very house her father built in Plattsburgh, NY, Edith was the youngest of eight children.

Edith met her beloved husband while working as a counter clerk at Woolworth's, and they shared a loving marriage that lasted 67 wonderful years. Together, they raised two children, Mary (Doug) Strong and Michael (Deanna) O'Connell, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren - Jessica O'Connell, Angela DeMartin, Pamela Strong, and Kaitlyn (Max) Recny; along with her great-grandchildren: Jarrett, Braden, Jae, Joey, Austin, and Ella.

Throughout her life, Edith was a devoted member of her community and a lifetime member of St. Peter's Altar Society. She dedicated many hours as a volunteer with the Knights of Columbus, embodying the spirit of service and generosity. Edith's love for playing pinochle, crocheting, and making crafts brought joy to her family, and she was famously known for her "grandma's magic cookies." She spent her winter retirement years in Punta Gorda, where she found immense happiness.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents, and all of her siblings: Joseph, Pauline, Lawrence, Frances, Margaret, Katherine, and George. Her family extends special thanks to her dear friends Janice and Celia, who visited her weekly, and to the R5 staff at CVPH for their compassionate care.

A funeral service to celebrate Edith's remarkable life will be held at St. Peter's Church on May 13, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Following the service, Edith will be laid to rest at St. Peter's Cemetery.
