Donna Jeanette Thompson, a beloved member of the Westport community, passed away unexpectedly on July 19, 2024. Born on December 8, 1962, in Newburgh, NY to her loving parents David Koechel, Sr. and Jeanette Christodolus Koechel, Donna graced the world with her presence for 61 years before departing to eternal peace. She was a cherished wife to Robert, a devoted mother to Sarah, Timothy, and Robert; a wonderful step-mother to Stephanie and Melissa; and a loving sister to Debra, Daniel, David Jr., and Karen.
In her 24 years of dedicated service to Essex County, Donna upheld a commitment to excellence and compassion that touched the lives of many.
Donna adored spending time with her family and friends, finding joy in the camaraderie and connection shared with her loved ones. Her adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors led her to explore the beauty of nature, always eager to embrace new experiences. Known for her selflessness and readiness to assist others in need, Donna exemplified the true meaning of empathy and support.
A passionate shopper and a seasoned traveler, Donna found solace in seeking out new treasures and creating lasting memories with those closest to her. Her journeys to Maine and downstate to visit cherished friends, Debbie Lee and Lisa Jaman, were sources of immeasurable joy and companionship for Donna.
Donna leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth, survived by her beloved husband Robert Thompson; her children Sarah Thompson, Timothy Thompson, Robert Thompson; her step-daughters Stephanie Gunsett and Melissa Ackerman; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her siblings Debra Kahler, Daniel Koechel, David Koechel, Jr., and Karen Larsen; and dear family members, who will forever hold her dear in their hearts. Her former son-in-law Donald Pulsier, Jr., who she loved as a son, remains a cherished part of her extended family.
A gathering to honor Donna's remarkable life will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elizabethtown Fish and Game Club, 233 County Route 8, Elizabethtown, inviting all those whose lives she touched to come together in remembrance and celebration of her enduring spirit. May her memory be a beacon of light and comfort to all who knew her, guiding them with love and grace through the days ahead.
