Plattsburgh- Donald N. Potter, 82, of Plattsburgh and formerly of Black River and Morristown, died January 21, 2012 at his home under the care of Hospice of the North Country. Born on November 27, 1930, Thanksgiving Day, at the home of his grandmother in Antwerp, son of Handley G. and Eliza (Caryl) Potter.
He attended Schools in Alexandria Bay and Sackets Harbor before moving to Black River in 1944. He graduated from Black River High School in 1948. Donald married Barbara E. Clark on July 21, 1951 at the Black River Methodist Church. In October 1951 he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving until August of 1956. In December of 1957 he became a member of the Carpenters Union #278 remaining active until his retirement in December of 1992. Donald worked for the Deline/Colligan Construction Company the majority of his career. Mr. and Mrs. Potter traveled extensively during their retirement, visiting every State in the Union, Canada and Mexico, in addition to three trips abroad.
Donald is survived by his wife Barbara of Plattsburgh, three sons; Donald, Jr., Michael of Tucson, AZ., Stephen of Nashville, TN., three daughters; Melanie Clark of Plattsburgh, Natalie Yadon of Canon City, CO., Susanne Melchione of Lexington, VA., fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother, Sherwood of Lowville.
A Memorial service will be held Monday January 28, 2013 at 1:00 PM from Dannemora United Methodist Church in Dannemora, with the Rev. Gary and Wendy Rhodehamel officiating.
