David James Smith, a long time resident of Lewis, N.Y. passed away on November 7, 2022.
David’s greatest joys in life were his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. David had accomplished so much in his full life and was a very proud man. He wasn’t a big man, but he was a “Giant” to all who knew him. But, he was his family’s Super Hero.
David, his son; Eugene and son-in-law; Hugh worked together for over forty years in the woods as loggers. He was so proud of the family business they established “D & E Logging” but not only was he a skilled logger he was also a truck driver, home builder, woodcrafter, but with all of these many jobs he always made time to care for the needs of others. David loved being in the woods working and hunting with his son, son-in-law and grandson, nothing made him happier.
David is survived by his wife; Jean, of 65 years, sons; Eugene and Timothy, daughter; Laurie and Hugh “Will” Goff, grandchildren; Sara Smith (Brad), Ashley Glanda (Ben), Amanda De Cicco (Joey), Benjamin Goff (Kendra), great-grandchildren; Nathan, Isaac, Cecelia, Franklin, Ava, Zoë, Aria, Huck and Reed. He was predeceased by his mother; Ada Smith and son; Dennis.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in David’s memory to High Peaks Hospice.
There will be no public services at the request of the family.
