With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel Frederick Sheldon, a beloved member of the Keene Valley community, who passed away unexpectedly on July 23, 2024 at home. Born on November 29, 1954, in Lyons Falls, NY, Dan lived a rich and fulfilling life that touched the lives of many.
Dan was a skilled carpenter who dedicated his career to building homes with precision and care. His passion for craftsmanship extended beyond his work, as he was also an avid fisherman and hunter, finding solace in nature's beauty. Moreover, his musical talents shone through as a member of the well-known local band MerleJam, entertaining countless audiences.
Beyond his professional and musical endeavors, Dan was also a dedicated member of the community, serving as a basketball coach at Keene Central School, where he mentored youth for over two decades. Additionally, his commitment to public service was evident in his 35 years as a Keene Valley Firefighter and Commissioner. Dan's warm and jovial personality made him a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Maggie Sheldon, his children Kathryn Dwyer and her husband, Robert, and Edward Sheldon and his wife, Jazmin Belcoure, along with his cherished grandchildren Eric, Emily, Molly, Andrea, and Annabelle.
A celebration of Dan's life will take place on August 10, 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Wooden Nickel, where friends and family will gather to share memories, listen to music, and honor his legacy. We invite people to email pictures, stories, videos, and other memories of Dan to MemoriesOfDanSheldon@gmail.com to be shared at the celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Keene Valley Fire Department in Dan's memory.
