Westport - The family of Dale Levings Moss, 90, announce his passing on Monday, March 5, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital, Daytona Beach, FL. Arrangements are with Heidrick Funeral Home, Elizabethtown, NY.

Dale was born March 9, 1933, second son of Morris A. Moss and L. Mardell Moss, born at Elizabethtown Community Hospital. Dale left high school at the age of 17 to enlist in the United States Air Force. He was an honorary graduate of Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School in 2010. Dale united into marriage with Joyce E. Tryon and they were married for 43 years. Joyce predeceased him in June 2003.

Dale served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1963 working as a fighter jet mechanic and crew chief. He was a long-time community member. Dale will always be remembered for his dedication to the Westport Vol. Fire Department for over fifty years and Emergency Squad for over forty years. He was a 22-year retiree of Mobil Oil, where he drove tractor trailer tankers. Once retired, Dale spent many years working as a mechanic with his son in Westport, NY. He then had a long career working at Pierce's Service Station in Lewis, NY. Dale was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1505 and a member of the American Legion Post #324.

Dale enjoyed hunting, traveling, snowmobiling, and driving demolition derby cars for several years where he won first place multiple times. He took many adventurous trips with his wife Joyce, including 48 states with his travel trailer. Often his friends and family would join him. In later years, he spent winters in Florida and summers in Lewis, NY alongside his significant other, Charlotte Lacey. One of his most fond memories was his Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

Dale is survived by two children, his daughter, Lori A. Warner and her husband Danny Warner of Papillion, Nebraska, and his son, Darren L. Moss and his wife Kaitlyn Moss of Daytona Beach, Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren, April Evens, Nicole Long, Olivia Batraski, Dalton Moss and his wife Karleena Moss, Lysandra Barney and her husband Aaron Barney, and Lane Wilkins. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.

Those that predeceased him were his parents, his wife Joyce, and his only brother, LeRoy M. Moss.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm at Heidrick Funeral Home, 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown, NY 12932. Immediately following, at 2:00 pm, will be a graveside service with military and fire department honors, at the Lewis Cemetery, where Dale will be laid to rest beside his wife Joyce.
