Charles “Charlie” A. Longtemps, 75, of Prospect Avenue, Plattsburgh, New York passed away peacefully on September 12, 2012, at the Meadowbrook Healthcare Facility in Plattsburgh. He was born April 17, 1937 in Lake Placid, son of Clifford and Carolyn Longtemps.
Charlie married Beatrice (Grim) on May 30, 1958. Bea went to heaven on February 13, 2012. Charlie and Bea lived on Water Street in Redford for most of their married life. Charlie was employed by Diamond International Packaging Company. He also worked as an independent logger and drove bus for the Saranac Central School system. He is a long standing member of the United Methodist Church in Saranac, serving as a lay speaker, member on several church committees and a member of the usher team. Charlie was also an active member of the Redford Volunteer Fire Department.
Charlie enjoyed gardening, baking, fishing, camping, working outdoors and spending time with his loving wife, Bea and their children and grandchildren. Charlie was famous for his pumpkin bread and congo bar brownies and often baked tasty desserts for friends and family.
Charlie is survived by his children, Rebecca A. (Fred) Jarrett, Marcia D. (Craig Melton) Longtemps, Charles F. (Lisa) Longtemps and Thomas C. (Amy) Longtemps and 3 grandsons who were the joy of his heart, Devin A. Longtemps, Taylor R. Longtemps and Joseph F. Jarrett.
Charlie is also survived by his sister, Jenny Lou Monty and brother Clifford (Sharon) Longtemps, sisters-in-law Barbara A. Dann and Janet Tyler and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday September 16, 2012 at the Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court Street, Plattsburgh. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday September 17, 2012 at the Saranac United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Redford Hillside Cemetery in Redford.
