Carl Elmer Munson

November 29, 1926 — August 25, 2019

Carl Elmer Munson, 92, lifelong resident of Chazy, most recently of Meadowbrook, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Aug 25, 2019 at CVPH surrounded by his loving family. He was the oldest son of Elmer W. and Eva L. (Matott) Munson born Nov 29, 1926, in Champlain, NY. On March 17, 1947 he married Pearl Blanche Ladue from Altona and together they raised six children.
On Feb 1, 1945, Carl joined the U.S. Army serving his country during WWII until Nov 25, 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Independence Ribbon.
Carl was a hard worker and performed many jobs. He started his own Auto Repair shop where his motto was, “If we can’t make it run, it must be a snail”. He was a supervisor at Buck Paper Co., mechanic at Riley Ford, Bus driver and custodial worker at Chazy Central Rural School and was the founder of Munson’s Trucking and Plowing Service. His greatest joy came from tinkering with small engines and fixing “that which others could not fix.” He spent his free time in the garage working and socializing with “passersby’s” who would inevitably stop to “chew the fat.”
Survivors include his sons Wayne and Richard (Audrey); daughters Debbie Naples (John), Cathy Devins, former son-in-law, Ray Devins, daughter-in-laws Debbie and Patricia, 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren, siblings and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Carl is predeceased by his wife Pearl; sons Rodney and John; daughter-in-law Mary; grandson Shane; step-granddaughter Katie; sisters Louella Mesick and Helen Chauvin; and his wife’s siblings Harold, Earl, Carl, Pauline, Doris and Joyce.
The family would like to thank Meadowbrook, CVPH ICU and Comfort Care staff for their care of Carl. In addition, they would like to thank all the friends and family members who took time out of their busy lives to visit with Carl.
