Carl Robert McCray, passed away on August 27, 2025, at the age of 72 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Born on February 10, 1953, in Elizabethtown, New York to Henry McCray and Mildred Haven, Carl spent his life in Willsboro, surrounded by the beauty of the Adirondacks that he cherished so deeply.
Carl was a dedicated mechanic who found joy in working with his hands. Throughout his life, he engaged in various trades, including farming, logging, and working at Veolia Water and Graymont Quarries. His true passion lay in the automotive world, particularly with classic cars. He had a love for Chevy Chevelles and 1957 Chevys.
A member of the Willsboro Fire Department, Carl was known for his commitment to his community. He forged lasting friendships and always lent a helping hand.
Carl was an avid outdoorsman who treasured his yearly hunting trips to the Southern Tier. He also enjoyed camping at Douglas Beach, where he created countless memories with loved ones. Christmas was particularly special for him, as he loved the laughter and joy shared with his grandchildren: Porter, Callum, Brinlee, Paisley, Peyton, and Bentley. Whether playing games or sharing stories, these moments filled his heart with warmth and his legacy with love.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Susan McCray, his sons Robert (Taylor) McCray and Daniel (Toni) McCray, and his beloved grandchildren; as well as several siblings. Carl was preceded in death by his brothers and his parents.
