Arthur Donaldson

Arthur L. Donaldson, 100, of Westport, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on May 28, 2025.

He was born in Harrietstown, NY on Jan 12, 1925 to Harold Donaldson and Lucy (Trevellyan) Lawson.

He fell in love and married Ruth (Merrow) Donaldson April 6, 1944 in Westport, NY and together raised four children and helped raising numerous grandchildren who meant the world to him.

Arthur was a man of all trades, farmer, carpenter, town worker, lumberman and much more. He was a member of the teamster union and drove tractor trailer truck for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, hunting and gardening. He had horses, dogs and other animals that he lovingly raised. He had the heart of a savior, was always there to lend a helping hand or advice without wanting anything in return. He was a man that when you came into his home, you were instantly made to feel welcomed.

Arthur is survived by his children, Dale Simpson and companion Barry Lawrence, Arthur Donaldson, Jr. and companion Alice Borden, Debbie Kandzior and husband Loren Kandzior Sr. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Jack and his cat Kitty whom were his best friends and companions.

He loved and cherished many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, both biological, extended and blended family members.

Arthur is predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth (Merrow ) Donaldson of 74 wonderful years, his daughter Shirley Donaldson, father Harold Donaldson and mother Lucy (Trevellyan) Lawson, sister Deloris Stevens, two grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Calling hours are Saturday, June 7, 2025 at the Westport Federated Church at 11:00 am followed by graveside service Black River Cemetery in Westport, NY.

There will be a celebration of life at his home on 109 Lake Shore Road in Westport following the services.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westport Fire and Rescue and Westport Federated Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Heidrick Funeral Home, Elizabethtown Ny.
